KeralaBoxoffice.com : 3 Dots Malayalam Movie Review
“3 Dots” can be categorized as a movie with one time watch, that too only with caution. Sugeeth’s earlier movie entertained us in multiple levels. And when it comes to “3 Dots”, it fills only some slots while, leaving others simply in a plain note.
The three dots, Vishnu (Kunchacko Boban), Luis (Biju Menon) and Pappan (Prathap Pothan) happened to spent days in jail due their duties from past. All of them have their own anxieties about their life. While from jail, Dr. Isaac (Narein) comes to influence them in the form of a guide who teaches them to lead life in a different way. While all of them gets released from jail, but finds it tough to cope with the outsiders. They have to lead life in a miserable life, until Dr. Isaac once again comes to intervene. According to his advice, they decide to find their own solutions for the scarcity of jobs. While Vishnu starts an ambulance service, Luis goes to teach driving. In the meantime, there happens to be occasions for Vishnu and Luis to grow affection towards Lakshmi (Janani Iyer) and Grace (Anjana Menon) respectively. With things are going in right track, the three dots decides to payback to Dr. Isaac as a gratitude. From this point of time, some unexpected changes occur to their life, from which we are known some unknown facts.
It is amazing that how craftily that Sugeeth tries to tell this story of betrayal and the kind of stuffs. But, it should be a matter of discussion that how he has succeeded in this process. At a point of time, till the moment they got released from jail, things were going without much damage. Even the matters happening outside the gate of jail too didn’t bother you much. May be the expectation for the remaining portion prompted me to wait further more.
As it was proceeding, movie turned out to be a mere combination of events rather than a proper story. A lot of ridiculous scenes followed after which we are shown the dots retaining their lost life once again. Out of the comic sequences, some are enjoyable but were restricted to a very small number of times. It was the miniature of some of the past movies that interrogate the genuinity of “3 Dots”. Recalling those odd situations where the movie tends to enjoy you is a difficult process.
Somehow, we are not sitting to see anything that will take a ‘U’ turn to test your intelligence. But, then too “3 Dots” failed to make us curious enough to wait for the proceedings. The kidnap scenes and revelation of the plot seemed too childish to entertain you. Also you can see that the rapport between the leading actors is not creating anything miraculous this time. But, otherwise an ordinary plot, some odd moments will definitely appeal to you. But, what Sugeeth has taken from “Ordinary” is the total visual impact that this provides to us.
Performance: There is nothing in this movie that will catapult the actors in award ceremonies. In an out and out helpless situation nobody has attempted to spoil the movie with the performance. Kunchacko Boban, the lead hero hasn’t attempted much in comedy as he is usually trying these days. Biju Menon might not appeal to you if you expected anything more from the actor. He is more or less the same Shibu from “Romans”. Prathap Pothan sadly has nothing much to boast like “Ayalum Njaum Thammil”.
Narien tried to get in a new avatar, but didn’t experiment much or tried to give a new dimension to Dr. Isaac. Whether leading actresses Janani Iyer or Anjana Menon or the rest of the cast, the situation is of no difference.
Technical aspects: it definitely belongs to Faizal Ali, if the movie marks any impression on you. He has used the location of Munnar effectively and blended perfectly with what he has done in “Ordinary”. While editing was average, V Sajan has won in not dragging the movie further.
Music: Vidyasagar couldn’t create any impact with his music and failed to match his previous efforts of “Ordinary”.
Script: it was pretty an average one, below average one I should say. It strictly followed a path where a lot of movies in past have travelled.
Direction: Sugeeth has created some hope for the movie as a whole, though an average script was his playground. Well, saying good bye to the comparisons would be a good way if you want to appreciate his talent.
